Which song(s), which CD, has the story of surviving the teen years? You performed for almost an entire night on this topic back a few years ago in Oxord, Michigan at a church. I MUST buy it for a friend of mine. Thanks, Sandy

I'm about 220 pages in to your book. Great accomplishment Don but the title is wrong. You seem like you've been learning from your experiences like an A student. You also have transferred well your live storytelling style to the page. Despite your protestations, I'll bet you'll write another book. You've done it once and done it well. Hope all is well with the whole family, and I'll see you at Gulu-Gulu soon.

How can I get a copy of your lovely tribute song to Lynn,Lynn, City of Sin? Is it on one of your CD's? I heard it on WUMB the other day and almost drove off the road. I MUST have it for a friend who lives in that fair city. Thanks.

Eh-la-bas, mon ami!

Spoken like a true "Coon Ass". I'm joking of course. Not a drop of acadian blood in these veins... as far as I know that is.

It was good to see you last night. I was hoping you might stick you head in the door.

I was truly surprised by what a cool place the Gula Gula is. I half expected Mimi and Rudolfo to walk in singing that beautiful duet that closes Act I.

The Gula is certainly worth saving and I will be happy to work with you on keeping the doors open. It seems to me we should be able to get a sizable chunk of the Boston micers to come down. Beyond that, who knows.

Drop me a line when you get the notion.

hey don...a quick note of appreciation for the show last night at tupelo...it's rare stuff when a dad and his daughter of 11 get to hang at the same show...made all the more special because we both laughed outloud pretty much from beginning to end...ok and maybe i got choked up once...ok twice...but ah hmm...like i was saying...thank you so much for gifting me the sound of my daughter's laughter louder than my own belly rolls....over and over again...a sacred and funny night(who knew you could use sacred and funny in the same sentence)...your show is required viewing for all families...especially those with and having survived - well sorta survived teens...many blessings kind sir...dale

Hi Don,
I happened to be watching some video I shot of you at my camp at Kerrville in 1991 and you were prominant in it. Elizabeth (new wife since 2003) and I loved it: me especially for the obvious reasons...I lost Kerrville in the divorce from Rhetta.

anyway decided to look for you on google and WOW, WHAT A WEBSITE! I'm thrilled you are doing so many great things.

Drop me a line when you can and my best to Terry, Lauren and Ariel.

Don,

Long time. I have been so out of touch that I just found out about Mike Duffy. A web search turned up your post and I had to say hi.

The news about Mike was a blow. I was just thinking about him the other night when I saw a preview for the new "Dewey Cox " movie. They have some song that uses the same "blow me" concept that Mike created all those years ago. It made me smile and think about him and the times we had at the Old Vienna.

Living in North Carolina for the last 7 years. Still writing music and playing now and then. (Took my 8 year old to Kerrville last year).

I am very happy and very involved with my family. I know you understand that place.

Drop me an e-mail sometime.

Rob

Don; I just read your piece about Mike Duffy. I can imagine the way it felt when you were describing the way mike could put a spell on a crowd. I met him at Kerrville 2006, we hung out at the campfire on crows nest and got to know each other. He always said he wanted to come out to our house in Wendell and hang out, he never made it. When I heard of his death I was at a loss as to what to do with my emotions. So wrote him a song called "For the last time" I hope I can play it for you some day. I went to the memorial at Passim, and wanted to sing it there, but I was overwhelmed with emotion.
Patty and I send our love.

It's me again. Been thinking about posting since I saw you in Bloomfield Hills. GREAT JOB. I laughed, I cried. Not sure I like you any more, making me cry in front of my wife like that.

Can't understand why you are not filling venues like the Fox Theatre and such. You should try. And let me know how you sing those songs without crying...

I had a patient the other day and I asked her where did you travel in from today? She answered, Lynn. She was about 60yrs old, a little rough around the edges she was but very likeable. We got talking and come to find out she works at a nursing home in, NAHANT. I humored myself with the thought, thats how Lynn folk become a resident of Nahant. Better yet, her boyfriends mother is in that nursing home. Thats how Lynn folk get to live in Nahant. Hah! His elderly mother has a foul mouth he shared and he refuses to visit her until she cleans up her language. I couldn't help but think of Don's take on how God has punished the people of Nahant. So, there is a foul mouthed little old lady from Lynn who lives in Nahant. Who'd a thought??

I just heard "I Know What Love is" on the radio (WCSX) this AM in Detroit....and I'm still crying 45 minutes later. This song is so meaningful to me...never having this kind of thing. My husband will state he "does not know what love is" and indeed, he would never see past his image to love another! I have no other family, so I pray every day for love, simple and true....and to be held close!

Hi Don - Thoroughly enjoyed your book and, even more, your nice comments relayed by my friends who bought it for me at a show you gave in Connecticut. I too have warm memories of the show you put on here in New Jersey and the great dinner conversation before hand. From the book, what stays with me most, maybe in part because I hadn't heard it in your concert or on the albums, were the stories of Waldoboro, Maine, an area I used to visit. Looking foward to whenever it is our paths next cross.

Hi Don,
I recently read Memoirs of a C Student. Having thought I’d purchased the second book in the Memoirs of a Geisha series, I’ll admit to being a little confused for the first couple chapters. In the end, though, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s hilarious and moving and I‘d recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor and a heart. Some Republicans might enjoy it as well. I find myself picking it up and rereading chapters randomly. It’s full of gems. Congratulations on having written such a fine book. - Marc

Hey Don I was wondering how I can get ahold of the lyrics for your songs? My mother is 82, and I bought a copy of your DVD with "Simple and True" on it, but she's hard of hearing. Dear Don:

I want to thank you for your class on Sunday at Julie Dougherty’s Studio. It was a truly enriching experience for me and has left me with a much clearer understanding of how to strengthen and improve my on-stage performance.

I am thoroughly impressed with your work also. I had a chance to listen to your CD on Monday, with my very good friend, Maureen, as we were driving to the back shore of Gloucester to see the storms effect on the Ocean. I will listen to it again...(when she returns it). You now have two more admiring fans!

I appreciate very much how the insight you’ve shared and the recordings of your work have demonstrated the importance of delivering a great performance, with much consideration given, to ones audience. I feel this will help me significantly.

This experience has also encouraged me to re-assess the quality of my work and, perhaps, I could simplify my strategy somewhat.

It might be wise, at this point, for me to consider becoming a migrant farm worker.

…Maybe after a few more ‘open mics’, though.

Actually, it has truly been an honor and a pleasure to have met you.

Best regards, from Maureen and I,

Mark S. Fuller

"Memoirs" was a quick read for me - a good sign, as I am known to start books and get 30-50 pages in only to never return again (sigh). I especially liked the stories of your (innocent) youth. I was reminded of one this past Saturday when a friend of my 16 year son broke the window out of our back door while executing some sort of cool, wrestling, I-can-shut-it-with-my-elbow move. My son made one joke to many about it (trying to lighten the dark mood) and my husband blew a gasket. Guess I have to wait an appropriate amount of time before sharing your window story with him. In any case, the book is now with my Dad, who grew up in Portand and tells tales of his own juvenile delinquency on occasion. I think he'll like the Boys Club story and the train...

Hope you got my advice re: getting the book reviewed and have had some success with that. I expect to see you on the Forbes billionaires list (like J.K. Rowling) one of these days!

Heard some of your work, think your energy fits with the energy of what we are up to, am wondering if you would be available for a private party on 6/9/07 in lower southern michigan (40 minutes west of Ann Arbor).

It is my wife's 50th birthday party at a little (air conditioned, brand new) country hall for about 100 people. Our party is from 2-7 PM at the hall, then a few close friends are going back to our home on a lake and spend the rest of the evening there (about 3 miles away).

We would most like to have you for the hall-party so more people could enjoy you.

She has had breast cancer for 17 years, has been a stage 4 cancer patient since 1998 and she never, ever thought she would see her 50th (and we are not there yet but she is in good spirits as always, just a sophisticated country girl who lives the word optimistic) - and of course (like all of us really) she knows she has no promise of seeing 51.

If it does work out, we would be VERY comfortable with humor that plays with cancer, death, losing boobs (she has lost hers) without losing heart, and losing heart and regaining heart and all of that.

Anyway, if you would, let us know what your availability and cost would be for about an hour presentation or whatever fits with how you do things.

thank you,

keep going with your good life!

I was gifted with your book by my best friend. It was she who introduced me to your music, dragged me all the way to Flint Michigan, for the Folk Festival. I was the only aging punk rocker in the room, a staunch non vegetarian, and thought Woodstock was a Peanuts character.
Needless to say, I promised to be immune to any emotive qualities you might bring my way. I augered in right about half way through "I Know What Love Is" Yup...you made me snot. This puppy hating, kitten kicker, bawled all the way through the next song too. I just finished the book, and yet again 800 miles away, I'm picking up a humoungus pile of kleenex. This was the best Birthday present ever.

Having been an eyewitness myself to MBTA bus having gotten the crap beat out it on Boston st,(I saw it from the Greek School) I can tell you it was as much of a WTF moment as it is described as in Don's book. You asked for advice for getting your book out to a wider audience and in fornt of reviewers. Here's a suggestion from a friend of mine who knows the territory:

As for reviewing, he should send it to newspapers like the Globe and the Phoenix. Start local. Generally speaking, self-published books are not reviewed, but who knows? Lok at the Globe, for example. Jan Gardner's Sunday column might be a place for a blurb - but send it with music and events. She's new and has just begun to check out the scene.

Hope this helps - I've just ordered the book... for myself...for my 50th birthday. Thanks ahead for a present I'm sure I'll enjoy!!

It would be hard for anyone to create a pleasant surprise after evoking so much enthusiasm to begin with, but this author, folksinger and stand-up comic pulled it off.
White stands up for the human spirit against the idiocy it sometimes confronts, with beauty that can make you smile through tears, and hilariously funny portrayals of the ludicrous. What is so special is the uplifting way this book retains its sense of hunan commonality.

I knew I would love Don's book the moment I heard about it and I wasn't disappointed. I did love it, but not so much because of the reasons I thought I would. I put off reading Memoirs of a C Student for well over a month after it arrived in the mail, knowing I would want the time to savor it. I finished reading it on Christmas Eve, and I was right - it was worth waiting for, and worth the five years Don put into it! His own voice is so strong in the narration, and his perceptions about people are so spot on. While many of his experiences are different from mine, they were all interesting, and there were many parts I could really relate to - the Irish hug (and humor!), the Unitarian references, the working class upbringing, living with a teenage girl, and the extraordinary lengths the media goes to to make people fearful, among many others. I found myself reading whole sections out loud to my husband as I went along. Reading this book is almost like being at a Don White performance--you laugh, you cry, you laugh, you laugh, you cry, you laugh (you get the point). It was a great read, and I hope that he will continue writing songs and stories for his performances with the same strong voice and keen insights.

Hi Don!

I was given Memoirs of a C Student as a xmas gift by my cousin. I am now living in Prague and believe me, when I read the stories of growing up in West Lynn, being half Greek, etc. I laughed and I cried. A few years separate us, but the adventures at Barry Park, Breed, The Common etc were the same with a cast of characters with different names but identical modus operandi. We are a special breed, lynners, and I have told my friends here that if they really want to understand why I keep threatening to punch people in the head, they should read your book. So know that Prague is being introduced to your words. Keep writing, my friend. Greetings to Mrs. White and the streets of Lynn.

Don White presents vignettes and visions of city life grounded in strong cultural influences. His insights hit the reader from a variety of perspectives and capture a caught-in-the-act honesty on situations that range from the reverent to the ridiculous and sometimes both at once.

Don White-you are not a very nice man! Having a wife who is a Don "repeat offender" I should have known better!

As I began your book memoires bought by Mrs. Repeat Offender, I thought I could breeze thru it and say "yes dear, of course I liked his book". I soon found myself entering "Don's world" - boy, this is scary. You soon had me sitting next to you in your 7th grade study period laughing as I saw papers and books floating out the window. Before I could stop laughing, you had me crying as I sat at a wedding reception watching "Debra's dance". You continued this yo-yo effect with my heart strings until your "talk" with Lawren at the Blue Moon restaurant. By the time I finished, the chapter was covered in tear drops to the point where Mrs. Repeat Offender said that the book now looks gross and I have to buy her a new one.

Thanks Don!...as I said - you are not a very nice man.

I just finished reading your new book. Congratulations, it is great! Your stories resonate with me on many levels, as a folksinger, as parent and as person who grew up in the same era and did many of the same things growing up that you did. Thanks for the great gift of being able to see inside someone else going through similar experiences.

Don,

I sent an e-mail to your booking site but haven't heard from you. I need your dad's phone number to invite him to my dad's 90th surprise birthday party at the Hibernian in Lynn. They've been friends for over 40 years. I also know your dad very well but haven't seen him in years.

Thanks,

Dear Don,
I have been coming to your shows all over New England since circa 1996. I used to live in Lynn, got married 3 years ago and live in California now. I miss the opportunity to come see you. My buddy Brenda from NH moved here before me & she gave me your book as a b-day present. We devour the newsletter- listening for your "voice" and have loved reading the excerpts. Congrats! The book is truly wonderful. I can hear your voice throughout and it made me and my husband burst out laughing and we were discussing the places and episodes and brought us a great feeling of HOME. Thanks for doing what you were meant to do. Now, for some greedy, self-centered thoughts- will you write another? More!!! Sorry, do whatever is right for you- we are just in Don-withdrawal here...Congrats from a teacher- you are A+ as a writer and a human. Craving in California, Sarah

"Memoirs of a C Student" does what humor does at it's best - it bonds and connects people to examine life's absurdities and to laugh at our own faults. Don explores sensitive issues like class, race, age, gender, and sexual identity with insight, nuance, and great wit, and forces us to look at our own biases and then laugh at ourselves for even having them in the first place. This book is warm, down-to-earth, and above all bursting with love. As a singer-songewriter-guitarist, and as a diversity consultant (and as an Italian American!), this book just touched my heart. Don, what a lovely gift you have given us all!

Don,
I used to think my "Ever So Humble," columns in the Boston Globe were incomparable, but after reading your entire book aloud to my husband night after night, I am humbled by your ability to make an exhausted man laugh out loud, even with his eyes closed. You wrap your wise lessons in cotton candy, so that the reader enjoys the clown without consciously noticing the philosopher. Quite an achievement!

Hi Don,
It is the girl who came out to the First Cup Coffee House (in LYNN)to celebrate her 30th birthday at your show (about 3 1/2 years ago). Even though I have not read the book yet, you read some excerpts from it at the show and it was really good. I made a mental note THEN to buy it as soon as it came out. I am happy to know that 3 more years of your talent went into this project. And even though my husband doesn't like your music, (I have tried, really I have)I think he will love the book. Please don't give up singing once you have a #1 bestseller...I still haven't crossed off "having Don White perform at my house" on my life's wish list. (no I am not kidding, I am saving up.)

PEOPLE...buy the CD's too! I have all of them and they are all great. They will make great gifts for your friends that have eclectic taste in music and those who can appreciate a truly unappreciated talent in his own time.

Hmmm. I just read your, well, um, "book." Cut it out, Don. Quit calling it a book. It's nothing more than a whole bunch of real stories you've told me over the years in that oh-so-very-Don chatty Lynn-ese language. "War & Peace," "The Scarlet Letter," "Moby Dick." Those are books. "Memoirs of a C Student" is way too comfy to be called a book. It's more like a hug.

Dear Hippie/Brickyard Don,

I just finished reading your book (now quite dog-eared) for the SECOND time. I know it won't be the last (despite the eye-rolling of my husband & my other friends!)

Your writings have reached in, connected with, and given a beautiful voice---to so many of my feelings about faith, human nature, forgiveness and love. AND they made me LAUGH OUT LOUD to boot!

Thanks for pouring yourself into this book and putting it out there for the world. And congratulations!!!!

Don;
I am forming a transitional halfway house type complex here in Connecticut and wondered if I could call the place "Second Chance Crew", there will be five buildings and each will have it's own name on it. Another thought is to use your song and line as the theme " It's a Great Day Not To Be Dead" for the project.
There will be two men's houses and two women's houses one of the women's houses I would like to call Angels in Pieces, One of the men's house I would like to call the Lumper's House, I will be contacting the Loomers as well for two of the house names. Either email your approval or let me know If you are alright with this usage.

Don,

Aurora and I have been fans of yours for many years, including gigs in Natick, Cambridge, and, of course, Somerville. We obviously love your music and sense of humor. Now the question. We are going to be at Saturday's Funny Songwriters Concert with my mom, who is 88 and from Lynn. I bought her your CD several years ago, but I'm sure the only she's heard it is when I've played it for her. So I think it would be absolutely wonderful if you could sing "I'm from Lynn..." on Saturday. I know you've got limited time on stage, so there may be an issue if that song wasn'tg planned, but if you can, great!! Thanks for being you and looking forward to seeing you Saturday.

anyway, your show was a total emotional rollercoaster. i knew you were funny from what i had heard before seeing you, but i was totally unprepared for how some of your songs, brown eyes shine in particular, would make me so overwhelmed with emotion that i almost had to throw up during the break.... it was an amazing show and i will see you again, so count on meeting me at some point... After all these years of listening to Detroit radio, last Saturday was the first time that I heard "I Know Exactly What Love Is" on Pam Rossi's "Over Easy" radio program. Thanks for providing samples at the ordering site. I prefer the 'gospel' version on "Rascal". It wasn't easy ordering online (settings and certificates - whatever) but I persisted rather than whimping out and calling the order in. Thank you and my best to you and yours for 2005.

Just wanted you to make a correction under your performance schedule. Your show on Feb. 5, 2005 in Pittsfield lists the wrong phone number for info. The Coffee house at the 1st United Methodist Church is at 55 Fenn St but the phone number listed is incorrect. The number listed belongs to a nice, sweet, older lady whom i have phoned, mistakenly, three times this week to get info. The correct number is: 413-499-0866. The sweet, old lady would probably appreciate it if you could make the correction. In any event, I and 5 great friends look forward to seeing you on the 5th!!

Hey Don, I've seen you the last four times in MI. The first was in Pontiac and I brought my husband. The second time was in Ann Arbor and I brought my three girlfriends. The third time was again Ann Arbor and I brought my recently injured girlfriend that I've known since childhood. She was in a bodybrace and wheelchair. You really made her feel special that night by singing, "Angel in Pieces" and I love you for it. The fourth time was at the Ark and this time I brought my mother, her friend, my husband, brother, and sister-in-law. It was my brother and husband's birthday and as always, it was GREAT! You'll always be special in my book ever since I heard you for the first time on WCSX Sunday morning's over easy show on Father's Day while driving to church. You sang, "I Know What Love Is."

I caught your member concert today on the radio, and would just like to thank you for augmenting the ever more rare experience of hearing and being excited about (local!) music. I had heard "16 With Me" on the air before (quite funny)but the accapella song you sang afterwards.. "I know what love is.. it's simple" and the bonds that tie family brought tears to my eyes. (Corny but true.) I hope someone here can tell me the proper title so I can pick it up on CD. "Live from Michigan" is already slated as a Christmas gift for my father. Who apparantly by the way is about the same age from me as yourself and your children.

Cheers and Appreciation

Saw you at a private event last Saturday. Terrific is an understatement. Life's little truths enveloped in humor and masterful song. Only thing is...you made me cry with your a cappella rendition of "Brown Eyes Shine"...ya bastid!

I'm going to see you Oct. 16 at the Bull Run. I've been a fan ever since my daughter, Jeanette, introduced us - and had me in tears at the side of Rte. 9 with your comments about "Heartbeat of Heaven." She'd made me the tape and neglected to warm me.
I have a special place for those who can do heartfelt and comedy. As Herb Gardber said, "I love working with comedy because when people are laughing they're listening, and you can tell them anything."
But it's "Angel in Pieces" which is my favorite. I'll be looking forward to hearing it.
It's my pre-birthday party - my birthday is the following weekend.
Your bookend is Vance Gilbert, the weekend after.
Yours in laughter and peaceful breathing.

I just wanted to let you know what transpired this weekend in Taunton Mass. You performed a wonderful show Saturday night, during which you flashed a note on the back of your guitar saying "call your dad".The following day I was in the presence of a young man who had been abandoned by his father at a young age.Your note brought to light his issues concerning this.He courageously shared this problem with others and received emotional healing. Thank you so much for playing your part in this. I also thank you for the laughs. I damn near peed my pants, you had me laughing so hard! Again, thank you!!! - Joe

I love your music, Don. You bring out emotions in me that I usually stuff. You have helped me get through stuff that my 4th step dredged up. Thanks for lending yourself to be God's messenger. See you this weekend at S.I.T.S.

Keep reaching for the top, you'll get there.

Hey, Don! S'been a while but I just wanted to catch up with you and wish you and your family all the best.

Back in 1993 or so, Don mentored me in performance skills while I was then zooming around the Naked City Coffeehaus in Cambridge. Don't know if I'd ever have become a full-time folksinger without his support and willingness to share his experience. So, thanks again, Don!

I just got off the phone with The Michigan Union Ticket Office (734 763-TKTS), who is doing the sales for The Ark in Ann Arbor (www.theark.org). I've got tickets for Arlo Guthrie on October 4th and Don White on December 4th. What will it be like to see these two hall of fame performers? Priceless.

this is a sincere offer. if you do any private showings in michigan, this summer, we would like to invite you to stay aboard our 36' sailboat on the clinton river, on lake st. clair. consider it a folk~perk.
i am using your music/musings to get well, i take them like medicine. i play the DVD at least every other day. are there plans to make another one [DVD] when you play the ark? HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE ?
i do believe you're being given back your youth, for the things you endured, and you articulate it so very well.
p.s. my favorite song? I'M NOT SCARED ANYMORE
we think you'll enjoy staying aboard CORUBA,

Had a GREAT time at the show on Sunday! Really enjoyed myself...laughed till I cried, then just cried then laughed some more. Thank you so much. Well my friend, you did it again, took a little town audience that really had no knowledge of you and wrapped em around your performing heart. The comments I have heard since you sped away in your rental car for the airport have made it clear, you left them wanting more and hoping they can bring others to witness their new find when you perform again. As you do, you left The village of Elk Rapids MI. in better shape than you found it. We were able to raise a couple hundred dollars for The Chris Vranich Fund at Third Level Crisis Center in Traverse City and I got to share my dear friends Don and Lawren with my new home town. Thank You for your friendship, kind words and deeds.

Always,

Thanks again so much for singing "Never" in Uxbridge last Saturday nite - and the chorus of the 3 little girls was really a nice touch. Your performance of "I know what love is" (my favorite song of yours)was exceptionally emotionally performed -- and the audience really loved it -- and the standing ovation only confirmed it. Don, thanks for your talent and making us all think about what your songs and stories are all about.

I am a youth advisor at the UU Church of Tampa. I organized a youth event to take place the same night as Don's March show at the church so the parents could stay for the show. The teens stayed for the first part of Don's show and it was a very special experience for them. Many were crying and all had a great time. It was wonderful to see them all singing about how stoopid they all are. What a great moment. Thank you Don for sharing your music with us. You have gained a whole new gaggle of teen-age groupies.

My wife, sister-in-law and I were lucky enough to see Don in Tampa last Friday. It was great to see Don in in a place where many in the audience were seing and hearing him for the first time. The crowd was very enthusiastic and the show was great. It was truly touching when the audience sang him "Happy Birthday".
Oh, by the way, the weather was good too.

Hi Don,

Thank you (again) for your wonderful performance last night. (Don'tcha just love hearing those words?) I know it took a bit for the audience to warm up, but they came through for a bunch of engineers.
Sorry I wasn't able to help you pick from the 'Magic Wish List' as I was cash-impaired at the time. BUT! I went on-line this morning and bought 1 copy of everything. Will most definitely catch one of your up-coming shows (and will bring a few friends to spread the joy).

This last show kept me grounded during a hectic time. You and Lauren are very talented, and I hope you both continue to spread happiness like you do. Geeze, does your son have a girlfriend? Haha! We wer married on Sept.14th this year and wanted to have Don perform instead of a DJ or band. We did get a lot of flackfrom my wife's familyand even from some of her friends. But we held our ground and could not be happier we did. After the vows were exchanged we had about 45 minutes to mingle drink Prosecco (an Italian sparkler that is better than champagne) and nibble on some passed appetisers. Then the moment of truth....Everyone was floored by Don's show. My brothers and sister literally had shiny cheeks from the tears of laughter that Don induced. They all could relate to his stories about raising teenagers. Their kids , however, didn't think being the subject of Don's humor was funny even if what he was saying was right on ! We had a friend who has an Audio/Visual Studio film the show and I am giving Don a copy of the DVD to keep in his archives and/or to use as a sales tool to people considering hiring him for a wedding or family gatherings. We also hope that all my nieces and nephews will see that it is OK to have a different format at a wedding and that they don't have to stick to the standard ritual.

Didnt' matter that the Bronk boys couldnt' hit him the first time they faced him as a starter. It was your story in Option 3 that cursed them. I had heard your song "I know exactly what love is", on an early Sunday morning radio show in Detroit and I could not get the song out of my head. The only other songwriter that has made such an impact on me is Pete Townshend.

His songs will always have a place, however, your music and words hit a bit closer to the heart. My wife and I, my brother and his wife came to the show in Pontiac. Though none of us new what to expect, all of us were very moved by your show. You will be seeing us on December 12th.

Hey Don, you old hippie! You're the only reason I got to your show last night in Pontiac. Thank you so much for putting on such a great show! Now I'm hooked and have to make it to the next one in Ann Arbor in December. I'll bring along some friends this time.
Even though I'm an older hippie than you, my children are just "tweens," but we are already going through the same kind of problems (slamming doors, losing arguments, etc.) You really brought back memories from my high school years (1971-1974) with the 8-track, smokin' doobies, sneakin' out of the window, hitchhikin', etc. You have a great way of being funny and heartfelt serious at the same time! I came away from the performance wiser and able to laugh at the hard times in life. You put it into perspective. Thanks.

Hi,

I saw your show at Green Wood church on May 30th and I was both moved and had pains from laughing so much. Thank you for your music. As I told you that night by the door, I feel your songs have helped me be a better father. You remind us of what really matters in life. Your kids are blessed to have you, and now you've touched my daughter as well. Abby, my daughter, won't let me listen to "I Know Exactly What Love Is" with her around because we both start crying. I fiddle around with guitar myself. Is there any way I could purchase sheet music of your songs to tinker with?

I was at The concert on Friday night at the theatre in sommerville and it was great. I've thought of a get rich quick scheme for Don and Jimmy. Knowing full well that "big brother" is watching us, maybe he could keep track of how many 'repeat offenders' use Don's and Jimmy's catch phrases. I myself have started many adult to teenager conversations with..."I don't mean to oppress you but..." Additionally, I can't count the number of times when I am just about to blow my logic chip and my inner theme music begins to play, "A Little More Love" All Don and Jimmy have to do is collect royalties from people like me and then you'll both be living in the Tajhma Hall!

It's midnight, and I have just finished putting to bed 10, 12, and 14 year old kids who I brought with me to your Greenfield, Mass show at St. James tonight. You won us all over, several times- I know "psycho mom" is gonna get thrown in my face pretty soon! Your story about your daughter's crinkly folding door struck home, and sparked animated conversation on the way home, especially about how good it feels to slam a door on a parent. (I used to do this a lot as a kid, and once I slammed it so hard the door stop came loose and the nails holding it ended up in the edge of the door, and I was stuck inside my room until rescued by the very parent I slammed it against.) But I really wanted to write and tell you about our 12 year old (who has been saying "You can't tell me what to do!" at the top of his lungs repeatedly since the age of 4), who has an old serape for a door until we get around to redoing the entrance to his room. He's been posting various "STAY OUT" signs on his door, with wonderfully expressive sentiments and mispelled words, that he hopes will scare us all away, but the "piece de resistance" is his recent addition of spikes -20 penny nails - poking through the serape, at just the right height to hit our faces if we aren't careful to brush aside the serape with an arm before entering. When he stomps off to his room, I know he'd love to slam a door, but absent that the spikes at least give him the illusion of protection against our intrusions. In contrast, I was amused to find him "laying in wait" outside his younger brother's door tonight, to make sure I didn't skip his room on my good night circuit. Oh, the contradictions in our children that sometimes are so absurd, and yet so normal. Thanks for a delightful evening.

Just wanted to alert all Don White's Michigan fans that Don will be doing a radio interview with Pam Rossi from WCSX (94.7 FM) in Detroit on May 17, 2003. Her shows airs from 6:00 am until noon. I will post again if I can get a better idea of what time Don will be on Pam's "OverEasy" Program. The web site is: http://www.wcsx.com/shows/overeasy.asp
Since Carey Carlson is no longer broadcasting in the Detroit area, give Pam a listen and request some Don White songs. Also, Matt Watroba plays Don's songs. He can be found on WDET (101.9 FM) from noon to 3:oo pm on Saturdays. Matt's web site is: http://www.folkslikeus.org/
Have a "Great Day"!

Don,
We have been fans for about four years-In June,2002 we saw you at the Greenwood Coffee House in Ann Arbor, MI. My husband had a small stroke during your concert (emphasis on small) but attributed his balance problem to being tired, sitting too long etc. I took him to ER next morning aand he had a new audience for all his jokes. Thought you would like to know that someone really did have his brain bleeding (your story of your daughter-homework. Also-FYI
I requested you to be a guest on the Prairie Home Companion (visit website-then register in the chatterbox cafe) Maybe some of your other fans can visit site and affirm my request.
Now that Fred is not with us on earth-I want to tell you that I like you just the way you are.

Hi Don, I took my family to see you Saturday night in "Lynn West". My two girls were the ones upfront to your right. They love you and your music and were thrilled to see you perform. My youngest was the one singing her heart out during your "I know exactly what love is" Hope you didn't mind. Best wishes, we will be around to see again real soon.

Hi Don, My dad loves your songs, he enjoys Folk. Me and him live in Lynn also. Heh. And I escipally love the song "I'm From Lynn, What Can I Say?". I hope it becomes the City Song someday. And when Napster was around it was on there, However for some reason after it died and we moved to KaZaa, It wasnt there. Maybe some of the Don White who had that song said, Well, Napster is gone. What are we going to do now. But who knows If
I hope do find it on there one day.

Hi Don - Saw your performance on Malden local TV station last night and wish my daughter could have enjoyed it. She has 2 girls, 12 and 16 and your take-off on living with teenagers was TOO funny. Wish I had a video of that one.
The whole show was great.

Hi Don:

Seeing you perform last nite in Londonderry was really a special treat. With all the cold weather that has been around us - it was so nice to to relax and enjoy the warmth of your stories and songs. Your new song is great...and just wanted to tell you so. See you at the Green Rooster in March.

Dear Don,
My sister is getting married this Summer and I thought your song would be perfect for the father and daughter dance. I cry everytime I hear "I know exactly what love is." I have been trying to find your CD for about six months now and I just couldn't remember what station and the people in the music store had no answers. I would lust like to thank you for such an awesome song and good luck in the future,

Don, we think you're great, my husband and I. Our sons (ages 7 and 12) can't help but think so too. The 7-year-old and I somehow starting singing the song "Stupid" (which set him off into giggles..you know those contagious ones where you can't help but grin foolishly when you hear 'em). Well, anyway, I decided to get out your CD: Brown Eyes Shine on which "Stupid" is Track #2 to see if the lyrics were in the inside sleeve. BUmmer, no lyrics. Where can I get ALL the lyrics to ALL of your songs so my little guy can read/sing along? Thanks! ~Diane~

What a terrific weekend seeing two Don White shows in Pontiac, Michigan. Friday night at The Lafayette Grande was almost a full house, and Saturday night's show was sold out. Both shows were recorded for a new CD. Don sang "Great Big Heart" (his newest number) and the expanded version of "Sense of Humor". He also did his songs, "The Painter", "Breathing" and "Rascal" (there were a lot of canine's in the audience). He read some pieces, "She Sings Me to Sleep with Laughter" and "My Heritage". I hope they all make it on the new CD. If you ever have the opportunity to see Don White do a live show, you will be thoroughly entertained and as Carey Carlson, (Detroit DJ) said: "You will leave the show a better person". Don White's magic can do that for you.

I went to your show Saturday night in Pontiac, MI. This time (my 4th)I brought my mother and my 8 year old daughter. Your music crosses all borders and generations. We loved it! Unfortunately, Amy was soooo sleepy that we couldn't stay until the end but I heard you Sunday morning with Carrie and really wished we could have stayed for "I Know What Love Is", next time. Keep up the wonderful shows, your fans are always there!

If you know which song I mean please email me.

I just saw Don for the first time on 11-8 in Pontiac Mich. I heard "I know what love is " driving down the road on WDET one day and had to find out who this guy was. I bought "Two Vagabonds" and that was it. Anyway I took my wife and two friends {who claimed to not like folk music, but reluctantly agreed to go} and a great time was had by all. Before we left all of us had bought numerous cd's and I am on-line now to see when the next show in the area will be. Love to Don and Family, Thanks !

Still smiling after seeing Don do two shows in Chicago. On Sunday, he sparkled, shined and exploded his special magic at The Old Town School of Folk Music where he opened for Folk Diva, Christine Lavin. The American Airlines concert hall was a beautiful theater with great acoustics, a great sound system and Don used it to the max. On Saturday, his performance at The Lutheran Church of the Ascension was a great preview of things to come next weekend in Michigan as he entertained and showcased a few of my favorite Don White songs in preparation for the recording session at The Lafayette Grande Ballroom. Don - "Thank you for the music".

Hi Don:

We just got thru looking at the DVD -- and we think it's really great. We have 2 copies...one to watch, and one to share with others. And, it really does feel like you're in the audience at a concert. If anyone is thinking about getting the DVD -- get it, and you'll be glad you did. Great job, Don.

I had the pleasure of seeing Don at his show in Scituate on October 4 th. I enjoyed his stories, humor and music. It was a shame that more people did not attend to witness such a fine performer. Any parent of a teenager or soon-to-be teenager needs to attend one of Don's performances. He gets you to laugh at normal everyday "stuff".

A very sincere thank you for two songs in particular which grab my heart: Breathing and I Know Exactly What Love Is. It seems that at certain times in my life, I am drawn back to my Don White CD's for a good cry and some perspective. (thanks for the laugh tracks too!)
For me, Breathing reminds me to stop the day to day hustle and celebrate my marriage to my soulmate.
And, like many before me, I Know Exactly What Love Is is a source of comfort as my family accepts the situation with my ailing grandmother.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for using your talents to create such wonderful works.

Hey Don
Just thought you'd be glad to hear that you are getting airplay on 91.1 WJJW Mass College Radio, it's my college's radio station and I always play you at least once a show. Today I played "Pshyco Mom and Dad" and I sent it out to David because he goes here too but I don't think he heard. Oh well, keep up the amazing music and I will see you Sunday.

Hey everybody,
I found this site while looking for the lyrics to "i know exactlly what love is", and I still haven't found a complete lyric sheet. I've also been to about seven CD stores in search of the CD. I was hoping that someone reading this could help me out. I supposed to perform the song a a monolouge for my college theater class, and i would prefer using the whole song, rather than the chopped version i got off of the simple and true website. So if you find the time...my e-mail is cidDrip@hotmail.com. It really means alot to me. Thank-you.

I heard a GREAT LIVE version of Rascal last Sunday on WCSX FM 94.7 in Detroit. When I emailed Pam Rossi she directed me to your website. I already have ALL the albums (CD's) you offer and that version is NOT on any of them. Where can it be had? Or is what they played one of those infamous "bootleg" things I heard has been plaguing the industry for years?
